10 Things To Know About Replogle Studios
Hello! We’re so glad you decided to check us out! We know hiring a wedding videographer can be a vulnerable and daunting task. so we appreciate that you’re giving us a shot! To make things as easy as possible, we’ve tried to lay out all the information you might need to make an informed decision! There are many reasons why someone might or might not hire us, but ultimately it’s important to us that you have the videographer that meets your needs, even if that’s not us.
1. We are Queer/Trans Owned and proud advocates for our community
Founder and Director Rachel Replogle (they/them) is a trans-masc non-binary lesbian who is an avid supporter of LGBTQ+ rights. They understand what it is like to live in an area where you are clocked as the wrong gender more often than not, to be excluded from conversations that don’t consider those outside the gender binary, and to be forced to choose what moments to come out in, and where the fight isn’t worth it.
We understand how deeply exhausting it can be to constantly explain or defend your experiences, and that’s why we work hard to educate other vendors on how they can be more LGBTQ+ inclusive in an industry that is relentlessly heterocentric.
2. We are a small wedding video production studio
With a specialty in non-traditional wedding videography, Replogle Studios is proud to have filmed beautiful unions for over 5 years! We specialize in videography, rather than photography, because video is what we know best, and it’s our favorite way to capture the essence of a wedding! Rachel’s education is in Video Production and Theatrical Directing, which gives them both the technical skills needed to create a masterful film, and the communication skills to collaborate with nearlyweds. We typically only have 1-3 people on staff at a time, so understanding that we are a micro-business is an important detail for nearlyweds to have. When you work with us, you have our full attention. We don’t book more than 25 weddings per season typically, so we can give your wedding video the energy and focus it deserves.
3. We are located in the midwest and we LOVE to travel!
Born and raised in the midwest, you’ll hear all the “opes!” and “yeah no sure’s” from us. As a LGBTQ+ wedding filmmakers, we know how hard it can be in the midwest to find other queer folks or even just affirming spaces! We are currently in the Chicago area and excited by any opportunity to hop on a plane and explore a new place!
4. We are consent-centered
In an industry that asks so much of nearlyweds, and often disregards the desires of individuals in the pursuit of tradition, we make a special effort to listen closely to the needs of people getting married. Something as seemingly simple as consent often gets overlooked on stressful fast-paced wedding days. So it is important to us to slow down, and ask before touching or requesting an intimate act like kissing. We make sure all members of the wedding party are enthusiastic about what they’re being asked to do, and comfortable with the people they’re doing it with. Just because you’re in a relationship or committing to a lifetime together doesn’t mean all forms of touch or affection are on the table for filming.
5. We celebrate marginalized identities
In our experience, Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity, and Accessibility are some of the LAST conversations being had around the wedding industry. As individuals in pursuit of a more connected world, we see the deep need for making DEIA a central part of our services. For us, that means celebrating identities that have been marginalized by the dominant culture. It is our goal to be a space where minority identities can feel free to be authentic, unashamed, and whole. We know we will always have work to do in this great unlearning of bias and prejudice, but we are committed to pursuing inclusivity with our time, finances, and systems. Black identities deserve celebration. Queer identities deserve celebration. Disabled identities deserve celebration. People of color deserve celebration.
6. We are priced for our product
The most difficult part of being wedding videographers is putting a price on our work. Each wedding film we craft is meticulously poured over, and it is incredibly difficult to place monetary value on something so personal and special. But we’ve done the math, calculated the hours, and done the market research. The price we list for our services on our website reflects the quality, time, and experience we provide.
7. We started in Muncie Indiana
Muncie is the birthplace of Garfield the cat, the location where Bob Ross filmed many of his PBS episodes, and the inspiration for the T.V. series “Parks and Recreation”. We are proud of where we come from and grateful for the community of Muncie and Indiana for being such a great place to start a business. Starting in a small town has given us an appreciation and understanding for how the majority of the United States lives. This has allowed us to find the beauty in both the exceptional, and the ordinary.
8. We are a team player in the industry
We love connecting with other wedding vendors! Especially other queer vendors! We love it so much we have a TikTok series highlighting other queer wedding vendors. Check it out! We are also huge supporters of organizations like Equally Wed and Altared that are working tirelessly to make the wedding industry a better and safer place for marginalized identities. Through online groups, vendor happy hours via zoom, and social media, we have adored the connections we’ve made inside this industry.
9. We have big dreams
Replogle Studios was built on the belief that all people deserve to be heard. Particularly those of marginalized identities who have been silenced by a system built to keep a small group in power. It might seem odd that we have landed in the Wedding industry, but any google search or Pinterest board will likely show how homogenous the representation is in mainstream American wedding media. White, straight, thin, able-bodied, christian, etc. It is our dream to be part of the movement to shift the industry toward a better way of being. We imagine a future where finding wedding vendors who align with your values is easy, accessible, and reliable. We plan to be part of making that future a reality.
